Axolotl’s scope
Axolotl engineered and manufactured the custom Grid Glass panels, working with Woods Bagot on prototypes and the final composition. Nicholas Fuller produced the precision metal framework that surrounds the glass.
Materials and processes
Bronze metal inlays within low-iron glass establish the panel geometry. Sampling refined the grid spacing, surface texture and transparency so the glass and surrounding framework read as one architectural element.
The challenge and response
The brief called for privacy without separation. A series of prototypes balanced the metal grid and glass texture to subtly define seating areas while preserving light, views and a sense of connection throughout the carriage.
